The governing body of .au domain names, the .au Domain Administration (auDA), recently announced that .au direct names will launch in Australia on 24 March 2022.

From the launch date, users will be able to register a domain name directly followed by .au, such as TroveGroup.au

auDA has hailed the benefits of the change in domain name to be as follows:

  • domain names will now be shorter,
  • they will be simpler, and
  • they will represent a uniquely Australian online address.

The .au direct namespace will complement, and not replace, the existing suite of Australian namespaces such as com.au, edu.au, gov.au and org.au.

Registrants of domain names existing before the launch of .au direct on 24 March 2022 will have the first opportunity to apply for priority to register the exact match of their existing domain name in the new .au direct namespace via the following Priority Allocation Process:

This Priority Allocation Process will run for 6 months, from 24 March 2022 to 20 September 2022, so be sure to not miss out registering your .au domain name!

Electronic Meetings to Stay – New Legislation Passed

The Corporations Amendment (Meetings and Documents) Bill 2021 was recently passed which makes permanent the previously temporary changes to the Corporations Act 2001 (Trove link – https://lnkd.in/gXsDEz2W)

These changes allow companies and registered schemes to hold hybrid meetings (i.e., give shareholders the option of either attending in person or remotely) and use technology to execute company documents, sign meeting-related documents and provide those documents to their members.

The legislation reflects the continued constraints we have in Australia with meeting in person across the country.

A review of your company’s Constitution is recommended to ensure it is appropriately worded to allow for such technological concessions.
